Snagged rear tire

Hadn't seen it yet--Brother was using my Dad's 2N today and snagged a rear tire Hole about big as your finger I'm told..Reckon he can get some more use out of it with a boot inside???What is a decent price for a new rear tire?? Thanks

All the rubber is still there with the hole?

A tire jockey did 3 damage spots on one of my tires, but just in to the first webbing. I used this heavy duty industrial adhesive and clamped each torn flap between pieces of 1/4" plywood.
I was surprised at how well it worked so I decided to trowel some into all my aged tire cracks.

I dabbed a bit of old tire paint, that had turned to jelly, on the spots. :)

Anyway, just a thought.
I'm sure you'll get better suggestions for the hole.
If it was mine I'd brobably do what I did, PLUS a boot inside.

I have tires on tractor with hole as big as 2 inches and have booted them and worked for year. The trick is getting the inside of the tire good and clean and roughed up good. Then put your patch glue on let dry a bit and put the boot on. Then here is the real trick. Put the tube in the tire and air it up so it in turn holds the boot in place. Let it sit that way for a few hours or over night which is better. Then if you really want to make it look good on the out side grid up some old tire and mix it with some patch glue and fill in the hole in the tire

A boot might work, but it can be a iffy situation for heavy work. I just bought a new rear 11X28 for my tractor that is 8 ply. It cost me $350 for the tire, tube and mounting. Shop around and you may find a good used tire for less. Prices can be as high as $500 in some locations across the states. Check the local Craig's list for one also.

Thanks guys--hope the boot will work for him but just wanted to get an idea of cost for new in case he has to go that way....In '07 I paid $428.00 for two new rears with tubes and mounting, including tax.Isn't it amazing how everything increases so much in price...Local Chevron station is usually hard to beat-will be interesting to see what their price is now-if he has to go with new one..

Last year paid $550 for new tire, tube, mounting and loaded w/beet juice and they came to house to do it.

finger sized hole? that's it?

put a large farm patch on the inside of the casing and go. I have a thumb sized hole on a 10-16 front on my 7610S that's been running with a large farm patch and new tube for the past 8 years...

Late today, he and my Brother took the wheel off
and loaded it on a trailer-he will be going to the
tire shop tomorrow. I imagine an inside boot is
all it will get-I might dab a little outdoor
silicone adhesive in the hole outside just as a
feel good thing..it might stay a while and keep
out dirt and small twigs and such..The tires I
took off of mine when I bought new ones in 07 were
cracked pretty bad-gave them to another guy who
had just inherited one with totally bad tires.I
had stuffed black silicone adhesive in some of the
bigger cracks..As far as I know, it is still in
the cracks..temporary, I know but just did it
because I didn't have anything better to do at the
time..
