why are there 2 types of valve tappets?

8N workhorse

When taking out the valve hardware while rebuilding my 8N, I kept track of the valve positions, but I did not track the position of the tappets. When cleaning up the parts I noticed that 4 of tappet assemblies are solid and the other set are machined out and open in the inside. I did not notice this when pulling them out. I am assuming that the solid ones are for the exhaust values but I would like to get some verification on that logic.
Any comments??

Ideally, you would put them back in the same order they came out so as to not wear the camshaft lobes differently. Mixing them up can result in a flat cam or concave worn tappets. But at this point, since you didn't mark them, it doesn't make much difference.
