DO I NEED TO RAISE OR LOWER THE VALVES TO PUT LEVERAGE ON THE SPRINGS WITH A SCREWDRIVER TO REMOVE THE CLIPS.8N TRACTOR ENGINE.

You need to pry down on the valve guide to free up the clip. I think it was Hobo that suggested using a screw-driver with the tip bent to get some leverage. They can be a bear to remove. Some PB Blaster and patience and they can be freed up.

the valve that I have removed all use two clips one on each side of the valve. making a tools to fit the spring may be useful and then you will have something for future clip removal. be sure to do this on a large flat piece of plywood so if something would slip you have a better chance of finding the clip. I can remember one clip I lost and could not find ended up having to make one engine ran good after it was all back together. so one can make things to fix or repair an engine even tools to make the job easier

(quoted from post at 21:22:16 10/06/14) does no one have the ford tool to pull the keepers ? I have 2 of them and the guide jack
THANK YOU FOR INFO,BUT MY QUESTION WAS WHEN I REMOVE THE VALVE DO I NEED TO TURN THE CAMSHAFT TO RAISE OR LOWER THE VALVES OR DOES IT MATTER WHAT POSITION THE VALVES ARE .THE VALVES ARE OPEN OR CLOSED

I had the valves closed when I removed them, it makes it easier to push down on the guide to remove the guide keeper.

THANKS FOR INFO,I STILL NEED TO KNOW IS THE VALVES NEED TO BE IN THE OPEN OR CLOSED POSITION.OR DOES IT MATTER.
I ALSO READ SOMETHING ABOUT PRIMING THE OIL PUMP AFTER PISTON AND RING CHANGE.IS THIS TRUE .

Valve in closed position for removal. Prime oil pump if you do not get any oil pressure when cranking with key off after engine work. May need to jump starter with a 12 volt battery to get first oil pressure. Do not start engine until oil pressure is verified.
