Headlight fuse block.

I have a '48 8N (front distributor). After years, I have decided to hook up the headlights. I have a toggle switch on the dash that just goes to dangling wires...not connected to any fuse or fuse-block that I can find. I have all the pertinent manuals and although I have found a wiring schematic (more or less), none show exactly where the fuse-block is supposed to be located. Where is it supposed to be?
If there is none, I suppose I could put one in-line, but do not know how many amps it should be for.

There is no fuse block for the head lights.

light swtich draws power from one of the studs on the factory resistor block. wire coming out of the switch goes directly to the lights

Get the OEM switch. It is a pull switch, much better than a toggle switch. And it has a fuse in it.

If you don't want to use an OEM switch, add an in-line fuse.

Add up the watts of all the bulbs & divide by your battery voltage.

Is your tractor 6v or 12v?

Headlights are 35 watt bulbs on a 6v tractor, 55w on 12v. So that's 70 watts on a 6v tractor.

What are the tail lights?

Lets assume one bulb at 35w. So, 105 watts/6v = 17.5 amps.

In a perfect world, your load should not be more than 75% of the fuse, so you need a 25 amp fuse. Good luck w/ that. Use a 20 amp fuse.

And do not wire the lights through your ignition switch. It will not handle 17 amps.

Original had an old style glass fuse in the switch. Don't know if you can buy original style. An in line fuse holder on battery side of switch is what I used when I installed a toggle switch to get my lights up and going again. Not restore quality, but for a working tractor.....do what works.
