Ot:Deerstand

Finally finished the deerstand for the year. We made it out of a walk in cooler my husband had got some years ago, paired with some used tin, used carpet from my neighbors apartment, we had to put around $400 into building it that includes the small wood stove. It's 6x10 with 4 inch foam insulated walls. Should be nice an cozy!! Only setback when we got there yesterday to finish was finding the roof leaked in one spot....didn't slope the roof. So we managed to jack the front up with a handyman jack enough and use a johnny bar to pack enough dirt under the front legs to raise it in the front. We didn't sheet the inside of the roof and im glad we didn't. Maybe next year if we have problems with it still someone will get their happy butt up there and slope the roof. But I cant complain, better than sitting in a blind freezing. I had it up to 104 in there yesterday drying out the floor to lay the carpet. It sits about 4 ft off the ground and the posts are roughly 18" into the ground.

nice
sure beats sitting on a stump when the trees and stands are too iced up to get into, or the wind is howling.

first year, tag team em.
While they are so busy stamping their feet and blowing at the new addition to their world,
they will never notice me pulling back my bow in a neighboring treestand.......

They don't mind it...I've got cameras up with hundreds of pics of deer out in the field in front of it eating the clover I'm not worried one bit about seeing deer. Even got some bobcats and a sow with 2 cubs in that field it faces....since we started putting it up a few weeks ago not to mention all the turkeys.

5 gallon Bucket if you have to take a crap...with a bag in it....otherwise to take a leak sneak out into the woods behind and drop your drawers!

That's great Lisa.
Nothing like a little comfort while you're in the stand.
After freezing our rear ends for many years we finally built a similar stand last year. 6'6"X8'
Trenched in a 110V power line in conduit to it and use an electric heater.
Stay warm, stay longer, see more deer.

Nice!!!! Our hunting cabin is to the north maybe 1/8th of a mile and theres no power...no running water..we finally last year wired in a 12v light bulb to run off a 12v deep cycle battery to replace the lanterns....do business in the outhouse and take a bath in the log sauna we built...after you hand pump your water and heat it on the barrel stove! Its such a nice get away from the "modern life"! The one on the right is the sauna...P.S. its my get away if Ebola ever shows up here....

Thanks! Sad to say im not hunting this year...I've been the bow hunter and have been too busy this year to shoot my bow..we hunt across the boarder so a license is $165..so I decided to hold out till next year and save the money...so Mr..gets to hunt in it when rifle opens in November...I'll sit and supervise...tend the fire this year.. I have to take a hunter safety course this next year to rifle hunt next fall in order to rifle hunt next year...Plus I need to sight in my 243...Hoping to settle down with the tractor stuff this winter a bit and focus on shooting this spring.

Lisa very nice hunting stand. After you get your deer just cut it up and throw it in the walk in freezer stand. A bit of dry ice and she'll keep into the summer.

Ive been procrastinating. Built my stand a few years ago with the intention of enclosing it, but as you can see it hasn't happen yet.
I did furnish it though.

I luv that cabin. When you gonna do your own reality show.

That looks very nice and comfortable. I would imagine more comforts will creep in. It would be a great place to put in pics of days gone by deer hunts. Love the cabins.

Lisa; Why don't you replace the bucket with a chemical toilet? A little more comfortable and easy to take care of . That's what some people use around here. We are lucky here as I can hunt right out of the house and am in deep woods in minutes.

LisaK - good looking stand - my father-in-law would love the stove - he use to put a little bathroom heater in his stand and run the piping up to it from a propane bottle underneath the stand and camo it. Good luck and I know you will stay warm.

Nice setup! I gotta build a couple of new stands but haven't gotten to it yet.

Going to sight my rifle in next week.

Rick

That's a good thought also..might have to get something like that when the little one starts going with.
