Generator problems

Do you have a working ammeter? It would tell you.
If not, use a voltmeter to measure the voltage across the battery
terminals with it not running, then again with it running at about
3/4 throttle. The running voltage should go up about one volt.

what is your ammeter telling you?

have you motor tested it?

belt off, jump bat to arm, ground field. should spin.

(quoted from post at 21:24:35 09/23/14) 1948 8n new battery 6volt won't start after it runs. Have to jump it to start it. How do you know if the generator is bad?
nother input: a new/fully charged battery should run the tractor all day + , and should start it a dozen times even if you had no generator at all. You may have other problems.

First, check the ground is correct, and the battery is good. Then, polarize the system. Then check the generator output with a good voltmeter. From there, if the generator is putting out properly, chase the wires to find where you lose voltage. If it's not putting out properly, do the tests described in the shop manual.
