1500 or 1000 watt engine water heater

I'm looking for advice on installing one this winter. What is proper wattage and port size for 2N? Any comments by you more experienced guys is appreciated.

You do know that you can't install a block heater in a soft plug on an N engine, right?
The hole in the block does not go deep enough to accept one.
Most guys here use an inline type heater in their lower radiator hose and those seem to work well for them.
I have a later tractor and the engine weighs close to twice what an N engine weighs. I use a 1200 watt block heater and that works just dandy.
Plug it in for an hour or two and the engine fires off like it's July instead of January.
I highly recommend a heater of one sort or another for extreme cold weather starting.

Yeah, an inline heater was what I was thinking for the N. A mag block heater might be good then for the MF65?

I use a 600W Kats lower radiator hose heater in my 8N. Available at most auto parts stores.

A buddy of mine up north uses a combo setup of lower hose heater, a mag heater on the oil pan, hyds sump , tranny, and rear end, plus a trickle charger on the battery. Last I heard he used a heat lamp ( brooder lamp for chickens ) aimed at the seat too.

he used 2-3 circuits in his unheated garage to run all this on timers. trickle came on first then the heaters came on a couple hours before show time, then the heat lamp about 15 minutes before he needs to plow snow.

he says it makes it much more bareable.. :)

Thanks Del, Good to know 600w is sufficient but guess really depends on local. Went to both Advance and AutoZone today; neither stock it nor knew what I was talking about. LOL

I use a 750 on my Farmall M - anything bigger than that will be overkill on an 8N. Remember, it doesn't need to get it hot, just noticeably warm.

I use a 1500 watt.....on my 1206 Farmall diesel with a 361 CI engine. Don't need a real big one for an N.
