2 piece valve stem

50 side mount 12v Loaded tires

Left rear started leaking air out of the valve stem. So far I've determined I have a two piece valve stem and there is a chance I can replace the outer portion and not go into the tire to replace the whole valve stem. It looks like I've also lost the washer and nut.
While confidence is not high to get it done due to the condition and corrosion, theoretically I should be able to grab the outer portion at the knurled part and twist out said outer portion and replace.

Any tips and confirmation would be appreciated.

There are two types of valve stems. They are called new style and old style. Looks to me you have the new style. If everything works like it should. You should be able to unscrew and install the new one. If it doesen't your have to remove the tire and replace the tube.

Last time I tried it the valve stem twisted off I had a hard time getting the other half out.

Why don't you replace just the valve core since that is most likely what is actually bad?

That was the plan. The valve core came out in pieces and some is still stuck in there and won't budge. Just thought I would see if there were any tips on removing the outer section since it's so corroded.

I'm generally the optimist around here, but your rim needs repair too.
You can replace the outer part of the valve stem with success.
I just did it recently, pics below. I had to hold the lower section
gently with a a pair of channel locks and turn the upper portion
off the same way. Gently with channel locks or vice grips.
However your rim will cut the tube sooner of later and the rust
will only get worse with time. :(

I gave up trying to separate the two sections on mine even after cleaning them up to a shine, using pen fluid and even a little heat. When I grabbed mine with vice grips, I used leather to save the threads.

Before I had a chance to tell the guy who put my tires back on, that I had tried everything, he grabs the base of the stem (with the tube out) in one fist and reefs on the stem. He says "nope, not going to come apart."

I got a little neurotic over that move because i had meticulously repaired the rubber part of the stem with devcon plastic steel and it did the job very well, and all the twisting force he applied probably caused my repair to separate a little.
Fortunately he didn't create a leak.

And he DID say, "Better not do that again, might create a leak."

On the bright side, I was really glad he put the weathered outsides of my old tires to the inside and it makes them look new from 10' away.

I'm always curious why people post about their electrics when asking a question about the 3 point or tires or clutch, etc.
As to your question, I generally take two pairs of pliers or channel locks and have a go at those.
I can usually get them to unscrew.
Have a new one in my pocket so I can quickly get it back in.
That nut is mostly just to hold the tube in place while you're mounting the tire so if the threads get boogered up it's no big deal. New plastic nuts don't last more than a couple of years anyway and then they crack off and disintegrate.
So I don't worry about the threads there.
And not to criticize here but it does look like you're due for some rim maintenance there anyway.
Sandblast, paint etc.
So if you did wreck the tube it will just be the catalyst to get after your rims.

Sometimes a bit of the smartass. No malice intended.

I thought it was quite natural actually . . . just like Mac computer forums I used to frequent, where at the end of a post the person would say what equipment they were using.

In your case part of a personal introduction I thought.

It seems to me that if a poster does not say what tractor they are talking about , most on here will jump all over them for not saying so! In some cases, it makes a difference and some, like this one, it makes no difference!

Both you, Royse and Ultradog were correct, with a little gentle persuasion it came right out. Royse's actually looked worse than mine. TSC sells a two pack of cores for 5.00. TR618A seems like a good part number. No reason to post an after Pic, looks just like Royse's with some extra rust.

Thanks for the input
