Mounting Check Chains on Mower

Just a thought on mounting check chains.

I mounted the top links for the chains on the two big lugs on the rear end. I stuck a 3/4" bolt through the hole with a bolt and lock washer on the inside and a 3/4" bearing collar on the other side to let the link float free. I couldn't find bolts that were threaded far enough to let me use a regular nut in place of that bearing collar. I tried that and could only get the inside nut on about halfway. I'm thinking I may have to weld the bearing collars in place if I have any problems with them getting loose. But then I couldn't get the check chain brackets off the bolts if I needed to. Guess I could just braise the collars on then it wouldn't be too much trouble getting them off if the need should arise.

Anyway with the chains pulled as far as they would go and slid into the slot the mower was still to low to the ground to suit me.

So what I did was raise the mower all the way so there was some slack in the chains and used four lynch pins as you can see in the pictures to fine tune the height of the mower.

I had the same problem with the top brackets mounted to the top link pin and I'd rather have them mounted to the two big lugs as you see in the pics.

Just thought I'd pass that along that the lynch pins can fine tune the height of your check chains.
