I have a 9N that serial number says is a 1940. It has a cast aluminum dash/steering box trans cover. It has a broken out area on shifter area so we purchased another one on E-bay that came in looking beautiful except there is no pushbutton starter switch in base. This dumfounds me, I did not ever see one without the start button in base. It is a cast aluminum steering box in great condition but with pushbutton in dash. can anyone tell me if and when this was done?

It would be a very early cover as they did not have the neutral safety switch and start button was on the dash.

Check out John Smith's web site for all the differences in the early 9Ns. But there was no safety start in 1939.

on your original one, is it broke out so bad that you can't alloy solder some aluminum back in there?
