What did the metal surfaces look like? Pitting or deep scratches?

Rick
I put that part together one and a half years ago, cleaned good and looked good, no scratches that I remember. I reassembled the tractor and ran everything to make sure all was good and had not noticed these areas leaking. After I started spraying on the wax and grease remover is when I noticed the problem. I put it together without any kind of sealant , because I think I read that on this forum. I really think it has to do with the wax and grease remover but I don't know how to stop it. I have cleaned that area again by wetting a rag with wax and grease remover and wiping it down instead of spraying it on. I will check it again in the morning. I am so aggravated right now can't hardly think straight.

Do you suppose the problem is with the wax and grease remover? Shouldn't need any sealant on the hydraulic pump or pto. And the only way the aluminum based pump would get warped I "think" is by over tightening it? Did you tighten to torque specs?

I really think it has something to do with the wax and grease remover. I torqued the bolts when I assembled it ad checked them again using a pattern similar to putting a head on (criss cross out from center bolts.)
Like I said, I had rebuilt all the mechanicals and checked for leaks and only had one at the governor. I left it set for several days after running it ,with cardboard under it checking for leaks and that was the only one I found. Fixed that and used it some more and let it set and cardboard was dry. Had not noticed it until I started doing the final cleaning preparing for paint.
B-maniac over on the paint board suggested cleaning the area with brake cleaner right before painting. I have cleaned it this morning with brake fluid cleaner , there was a little weeping showing this morning after I cleaned it at noon yesterday
with a rag with wax and grease remover sprayed on the rag.

here it is cleaned yesterday afternoon.

OK; i aint too proud to ask stupid stuff. possible the cleaner you used wicked into the gasket? keep applying it; wick more in and it works its way back out. or do you have a lot more than the little bit of weeping in the second pic?

It is worst than that. The longer it sits the higher it weeps all the way around Hyd pump and PTO. going to try brake cleaner that was suggested on paint board

May be reaching here, but the inside of those old castings were coated with 'glyptol'(?) and that may have been to keep porous CI from seeping? How was the coating near the edges in yours?

I Think it was ok, it has been year and a half ago when I was inside.
The more I think about it the more I think it is related to wax and grease remover. It sat for a long time (year & 6 months or more with fluid in it)with no problems, after I got all mechanical work done I put about 7 hours on it and did not notice any weeping , It seems to be after I started cleaning in prep for paint that I noticed the weeping. Trying the brake cleaner that B-maniac suggested over on painting board. Will let everyone know.
