Lube for Woods M5 Mower?

Automotive gear oil will be fine, verify that it states "EP" or extreme pressure. For a leaky gearbox some people use cornhead grease or #00 grease. #00 grease is pourable and usually comes in a bottle similar to gear oil and should be in most tractor/ag type stores. I know tractor supply carries it and in my store its over by the tractor 3-point hardware, not by the other fluids/greases.

If the seals leak at all you could use JD corn head grease in it.
I just bought 2 tubes of it yesterday to fill a steering box.

Ultradog, I keep hearing a lot about this grease but never been able to find it locally other than special order.

So curiously, what makes this better other EP greases out there?

I don't often go the JD dealer unless I need some of this stuff. But both dealers that I do go to have had it on the shelf.
The advantage to 00 grease is it is semi liquid.
So it will 'quasi' flow into where it's needed. Ordinary grease wont flow and can eventually get pushed out of where it is needed in mating parts.
Because it is thicker than gear oil it wont seep and leak around seals as much either.
I don't have any scientific evidence to prove any of this but that's my take on it anyway.

Yes, others here say that 00 (double ought) grease is the same thing.
I was up at my land yesterday and drove by 2 JD dealers on the way so I stopped at one and bought them.
