Oil in radiator

I don"t know the history of the 8-N I just picked up other than it was sold to me as parts.I have it running and there was some oil in the radiator. Not much but enough to get me looking. There is no antifreeze in the oil and when I cleaned the rad out and filled with water I didn"t see any bubbles or more oil when running. Can a bad head gasket cause this or could this be from an old repair or just someone putting oil in the rad? Thank you for any answers

While water in the oil is always a problem, oil in an N radiator is not usually a problem.

Anti-freeze has water pump lubricant in it. That's oil. Because it's a flathead, no oil lines are above the head gasket. But, you could have a slight leak in the head gasket which will produce a sheen on the coolant thanks to combustion gases.

Any performance problems?

Runs good for a tractor that has been sitting for 10+ years. It does smoke a little bit. The oil that was in the rad looked as if it was poured in. Black and looked like about a 1/2 pint when I drained it.
