OT: Allis Chalmers

I have a line on an ac narrow front supposedly. The motor tranny and rear end are together and supposedly he has all the nuts and bolts for it. But it might not have any tires I wont know till I look at it...this is all info relayed so far. From what I understand he has another one that is complete that he was going to restore so that he knew how to put the other one together and he's never going to do it. I think we can get it for scrap price and if someone would want it. I can only go there and get pics if he is home. The building it is in had a 7ft ceiling and sits on blocks. Im not an ac woman but can pick it up if someone in my area wants it

(quoted from post at 05:48:53 09/12/14) Do you know what model the Allis is? I'm an Allis guy with one Ford 8N that I will be selling before long here.

LOL now that's funny. I just picked up an AC C that needs a battery and battery box and new front tires. Good sheet tin. I picked it up cheap with the idea of flipping it for profit. I'll be keeping both 8N's.

I've had this 8N for about 15 years, they are a
nice little tractor. Mine has a loader and a
Sherman backhoe attachment on it. I put the
backhoe on it about 3 years ago and since then
have probably dug out 100 stumps and put in a
water line with it. I am getting an Allis backhoe
now so I have no use for the 8N. I have over 20
Allis tractors so they are my addiction.

I don't want the tractor but it's going to
go to scrap if we don't take it. I've got
enough projects than to work on one I have
no knowledge on.

Lisa will forever be known as running the:
HA8NTS - Homeless American 8N Tractor Society.

This is where people drop off there unwanted and homeless 8N's for care and rehabilitation.

Even though I've had AC's in the passed, unless it was a gift I don't think I would buy one, Unless I find one with a sherman trans in it. I've got my hands full with fords and cubs.
I, like you, hate to see them go for scrap but I can save them all. Best to post it on the AC board. Maybe one of those guys will step up.

Lisa, prices vary on model. There are a ton of C's around so they don't go too high. The CA is worth a little more and was a much nicer tractor. They build a little less than half of the CA's than they did the C. There is a C near me a guy is trying to sell. He put CA decals on it and is claiming that it's a CA. I just looked at it the other day for a friend. It ain't a CA. I suppose that some day this clown will find someone who doesn't know the difference and he will get his money out of it. They replaced the C series with the D series. I guess the D10 (replaced the CA) and D12's are very popular in the collector market and are accordingly worth better money.

Now for the down side. The AC trannies were never intended to shift on the fly. If the operator did shift on the go it would wear the gears and eventually they had a problem of popping out of gear, most often going down hill with a load pushing the tractor.
My dad's CA jumped out of 2nd like that. To my knowledge that problem continued up until and including the hundred series (190XT included).

A bit far for me to come get, but if you get it I might
need a couple parts, depending on model.
I need a starter and lights for a C for starters.
I also need a steering gear box, but I need to figure
out which gearbox I have so I get the right one.

We may get over there tomorrow and check
it out. Will find out what model it is and
so on. Will let ya know.

little c/ca's are decent little tractors, but like said,
at least in my area, AC's don't bring much.

too far for me too, but if you get it to scrap it,
I could use the head, if nobody else has spoken for it.
