Oil drain plug

Hey guys, my 850 is missing the screen on the oil drain plug. Has anyone ever replaced theirs before? I looked and its only sold attached to the plug. I don't need the plug and I'm determined not to spend that much money on it. What screen? Where to buy? How to attach?

Thanks in advance.

When I got my 8N the first thing I did was change the oil. The PO should be kicked in the nuts for how old and dirty the oil was. It was diesel black and thick but luckily not chunky yet. At the time I didn't know a screen should have been there but I might consider it the next time I change it.

Is it necessary? probably not, just like the 3 filter screens in the fuel system but how could you say its not worthy to be there, the more the better right. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

$23.49? Put the new plug in with the screen and save the old one for a spare. It could save you down time when you have problems getting the plug out and ruin it. Not an infrequent occurrence.

Doesn't take much to damage the oil pump. Easier to change the screen every 6 months than change the oil pump just once.

3 filter screens in the fuel system and plenty of folks still post fuel delivery problems including myself. They are NOT filters they are screens.

Im gonna see about getting one on ebay. I need to make a list of parts to keep an eye out for. Seems like im always needing a replacement or a spare for this or that. Thanks for the replies.

just one of those parts you always need on the shelf if you mess with old Fords.
Junk I buy, actually finding one with a screen is surprising.
And having one on the shelf will save you a trip when you have to trash one to get it out............

One of them mysteries I guess...large threaded object, always in contact with oil......and sometimes you still can't get it out.....

When I bought my 8N I did an oil change and found that there was not a screen on the plug.

I bought one, and then realized why the original was missing. Apparently the oil pickup tube had been re soldered at some point and now it doesn't line up with the oil drain hole properly, therefore the screen won't fit.

I really can't imagine that it's very important. If anything large enough to get caught in that screen is in your oil, you got bigger problems than the screen is going to fix anyway.

Of course it is possible that I'm jumping to conclusions, I've only been running w/o a screen for 17 years now... :)
