Hello! I am new to the forum and can't post pics yet.

My daughter bought a small place last year, with it she got a 47 8n. It ran but had issues. Her former 'friend' was fixing it a little at a time. He had replaced the solenoid, radiator, key switch and more. To make a long story short, they split last week and he destroyed all he had done. I need help figuring what went where in the wires. It looks like he had a 6v solenoid and a 12v battery/alt. He tore most the wiring off, like from the coil and alt to where they were connected.

I have pics but am to new a member to post them just yet.

Thanks!

6 volt solenoid will work with either 6 or 12 volts!
Google 'wiring diagrams by JMOR' and you will find a wiring diagram to suit your situation.

luckilly there is only about 3' of wire on an old ford!

the 6v solenoid is fine with the 12v battery.

if it is the oem solenoid, a small wire from the trans top safety start switch to the solenoid small terminal facing the engine. bat hot wire to the big bat stud on the solenoid, then copper bar to starter.

big charge wire from alt can hit one side ofthe ammeter, other side of ammeter then goes to battery hot.

wire from alt side of ammeter to lower terminal on resistor plate. key switch wires: one to that lower termoinal on resistor plate, the other to one of the top posts on the resistor. other top post on the resistor to the coil ( this asusmes a 12v 2.5 ohm coil ). if it is a 6v 1 ohm coil, there may be another white ceramic resistor inline with the coil.

if the alt is a 1 wire unit. that's it.

if the alt is a 3 wire unit, then there will be 2 spade terminals in a plug onthe side. #1 and #2. #2 loops to charge stud.

#1 goes to a 168 or 194 lamp ( with socket/holder ) and then to coil side of key switch.

Thanks Everyone. We need to get this thing running for her before the snow flies, or I'll have to do it!!

You has some serious items to take care of, in addition to the wiring. No air cleaner with piping to the carburetor and a new radiator.

He is a real class act! Have him arrested for vandalism! And get a restraining order to keep him away from the property.

We found the pipe and filter, a new radiator is ordered as well as the solenoid. He is an act alright. Just hope she keeps him outta there for good this time.

Thanks everyone. I have made copy of the jmor drawings, they will help a lot.

OK, looks like I have it. I do have 1 more question. There is a ceramic block in the center of the first pic. Jmor"s diagrams don"t seem to show it. Just remove that and forget it?

Thanks Again Everyone. This has been a lot of help!

my post told you how to handle the ceramic resistor.

I typed that in on a phone. took a while.

did you read it? or was i just excercising my fingers?

If you look at the diagram, It Would be connected between the coil and the resistor block along the brown wire.

NOTE your wire may not be brown.

If it was me, I would change oil. You don't know what he may have put in there. Filter should be ok since it isn't running.

WOW, you have a lot of self control. I'd be typing that in a cell for assault! You don't treat women like that! And my daughters?

Good Luck!

Might want to check all of the fluids while you're at it.
Hopefully he didn't go after the tires too. Geez.

😝😝I hope he didn't mess around with the power steering and the brake fluids.
Probably not, but he might have messed with the blinker fluid.
Seriously though, a hand full of metal shavings, sand etc in the
hyd oil would probably not be good on the pump and seals or trans.
Antifreeze looks like its already going to get replaced.

Very true. But by the looks of the Picts it seems that he just yanked off a bunch of wires and punched the radiator in a fit of rage and as quick as he could.

If he would have messed with the fluids I'm sure that he wouldn't have replaced the caps. If he messed with the antifreeze he wouldn't of tried to damage the radiator.

Surprised he didn't slash the tires. That's where the big money would have been. To stupid to know what he was doing. He didn't have time to plan anything out.

I would be more concerned with " if he returns"

"I would be more concerned with " if he returns""

I would be well prepared for that day.
