Stuck clutch

I have a 2N that I use for utility work around the farm, running grain augers, carry all etc. This old girl sat a couple of months this summer and the clutch is stuck tight. Usually I can pop it in gear with a truck behind me and have the truck operator hit the brakes and this pops it loose, but not this time. Before I split the tractor, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck going through the starter hole and getting it loose.

must have been 3-4 stuck clutch posts int he last couple days. humidity must be setting in!

usual drill

block clutch for a day.. overnight.. etc.

then put in high gear, lock brakes, and rig some jumper cables so you can set in the seat and just keep bumping over starter. 1 bump at a time. if you are lucty that will pop it free.

otherwise pull starter and hose down with some penetrant.. then after unstuck, hose back down with some brake cleaner.

use the types with a straw to get around ring gear.. etc..

Hopefully you can get it to pop loose with some spray through
the starter hole. Once blocked and coated for a while, try your
normal drill. Then once it's free, block the clutch pedal down when
storing it so it doesn't happen. A chunk of 2 x 4 works for me.

Is your drain hole on the bottom of the bell housing clean so
oil/water can run out? That might help also.

M do not use any type of oil on the clutch disk or you will have other problems. You can in fact spray it with brake cleaner spray and maybe free it up plus block the pedal down when ever you park it

Once you get it to release, block it down like this when parked. New modern tractors come with a hook to block the clutch pedal down during non use.

I did the neighbors John Deere. Start it in gear with a remote starter switch, then while driving it, step on the brakes. If your brakes are oil soaked or weak, this won't work too well. After that either block the clutch pedal or install a kevlar lined clutch disc.

Question:

Would the cotter-pinned drain hole provide long thin punch access to the clutch disk? That hole could be enlarged as well.

I ask because last spring I free'd up my stuck International truck clutch by pinning the clutch pedal to the floor, removing the flywheel inspection cover and using a wide bit screwdriver. It didn't take much to unstick it from the flywheel so a punch should work too.

You said use a penetrate which would be an oil so no I stopped there because oil on a disk is flat out wrong

you should know by now that the light oil in a penetrant is quite usefull at helping break the rust bonds from the clutch disc to PP.

then a quick hose off with brake cleaner and some slipping.

a commonly used practice.
