What to use to coat tractor steering wheel

I have a 1949 Ford 9N that sat outside for a couple of years in the rain and heat, the steering wheel is dull and makes for real dirty hands if I forget my gloves. Thanks

I painted the spokes with Valspar Antirust paint and some of it is on the wheel itself where you can't see it. It dries tough as nails and sticks like glue to the steering wheel material too.

Maybe Valspar has a dark grey that would look real nice on yours.

The paint has a real industrial smell to it and it has a fairly slow cure . . . both of which seem to indicate a very good paint.

I have painted them black. Some I put black electrical tape on. Last one. I just spend the $49.00 and bought a new one.

When i first brought my N home it had elec tape on the wheel. Someone said "u better get that off before it gets hot and turns into a sticky mess". Nearly 2 years and it hasnt peeled the least bit and its never been sticky. Maybe not the best solution, but probably the cheapest and it doesnt look bad either.

When I first got this tractor running and was testing it out to see
if it would get "fixed" or not, the steering wheel was one of the
worst I had ever put my hands on. It bled black not only on your
hands but all over your clothes. As a temporary solution I stuck
this cheap-o "slip-on" car steering wheel cover around it.
It has worked so well, I'm keeping it as a spare/painting wheel.
All that to say, if original looks aren't a problem, maybe one of
the lace up steering wheel covers could work for you.
I don't think the slip-on would last long under regular use.

Our 8N would really get your hands black during use. About three years ago I sprayed it with with some black spray paint that I bought at Walmart. The paint stopped the black problem immediately and the wheel has become more shinny with use. It shows no signs of wearing through after three years of hard use. If it wears through, I will just give it another coat of paint.
Hope this helps. Thanks
