I've been emailing with this young man on what he has for sale.
Seems like a good guy but misinformed. I've told him to check
out this site for help. I've also referred him to Smith's site for an
ID. I've told him that he
probably has a Mutt.
His response is:, "We have checked the serial number in 2
different spots on the tractor and it is an 8n and had a mechanic
look at it and said it is an 8n"
He should be here soon. Hopefully he will write a post. But if not,
help him to understand what he has for sale.
Disclaimer: I'm not interested in buying his tractor. Only trying to
inform him as to what he has to sell.
1947 8n ford tractor

Fuddy Duddy........look carefully at the REAR tire, it has the WIDE HUB of a 9N/2N. Special tip, ALL 9N/2N's have a 3-speed tranny, only 8N's have 4-speed trannys. In either case, 9N/2N/8N engines are interchangeable. Isn't that amazing? There is ONLY 1-serial number and that is on the engine block, just aft of the oil filter canister. 2N engines will start with 9N.....8N engines will start with 8N........notta 'thority, Dell

Well, I tried to help the guy. An informed seller has a better chance of selling. He did say he needs to sell ASAP. He'll never get near his asking price. He could do better if he was to get t running. Then depending on tires he might could get $1000 if he tried had and didn't need to move it fast.
This was his first reply to me:
"I'm sorry but it is an 8n that's what the plackered also says"
I asked him what a 'plackered' was, but he didn't answer that.

Interesting 2 tone color choice.
Nice white wall tire.

Seems like its cobbled up from many years worth of ford and non ford tractors.
