manifold studs

1948 8n, trying to get manifold studs out. i put alittle heat on one and use vise grips and no go. don't want them to snap off and make this job any harder. i replaced them 4 yrs ago and only used fingers to tighten them up.

Did you give them a rap on the end with a persuader as well?

Try heating up just the surrounding area, not the stud, and when you're ready put some ice cold water (or a cube) on the stud only by using a cloth or something.

Have a stud remover?
Nurse the frozen stud by fine degrees counterclockwise and clockwise over and over.

If you do use vise grips make sure they have nice teeth and you squeeze the snot out of them and stand back when you release them with pliers. :D The vise grips I use for welding jobs have no more real bite left.

I have had luck heating the bolt cherry red then let it cool. The expanding/contracting of the bolt surface will normally break the bond between the bolt and the head.

Do not get in a big hurry, heat 2 or 3 times.

Good luck.

Maxwell,

Glad you mentioned that, I was about to edit it into mine.
Oxy acet with a small oo tip works well to focus the heat.
