Shamefully I had to Google what a cultipacker is used for.
Now I know it does the same thing that my 30 gallon drum full of water does on a larger scale.

Thanks Lisa.
He was going to send them to me but they didn't come through.
That is a nice home built rig and would do the job well.
Most of us deer plotters have the means to disc or otherwise till up the ground and finding an old hand broadcast spreader is not hard.
But small seeds like clover and alfalfa don't like to be buried very deep - I think I read 1/4" is optimal. So using a packer or roller presses the seed down so it can absorb moisture and you get a much better germination rate.
Good job there JJ.

We plant mostly clover and have always used a drag with the 4wheeler. I find that it germinates the best where the tracks are, which is why I believe a culitpacker would work best for us. Be a good project for the other half to make one up like this.

So you took a drainage pipe and welded a barrel top on either side? Looks pretty interesting. Did you come up with that idea by yourself? Looks pretty hefty. MJM

Not a barrel top, a good chunk of steel. Think a barrel top would last about two turns. Have to be careful welding the galvanized, gases arent good for you.

Yeah, they kinda look like old boiler ends.If that thing is filled with sand,it would be pretty heavy. Were any bearings used in the pivot points or is it just pipe stubs thru a fabbed up bushing welded to the frame work? You're right about the fumes in welding galvanized. I had a friend of my brothers fab up a make shift bumper on an old jeep 4x4 I had using some 3" fence post about 35 years ago and I still remember him raising his mask to spit quite often. He made me keep my distance cause of those nasty fumes. MJM
