I removed filter to check lid fit and noticed some wobble
when lid is is pushed down by hand with gasket on .almost
like the center stud is keeplng lid from going down far
enough. Should the stud fit through center hole or rest on
it. I flipped lid over and center stud does not fit through
hole on lid. Or gasket is to thin or canister shrunk .leaking
gasket . I hope you can follow my discription

IMHO, center post should NOT touch or protrude through the cover.

Yours may have had the snot tightened out of it a few too many times.

Who knows, some PO could even have swapped a cover on to it from something else.

It MAY be possible to take it off and grind a little of the center post, touch up the threads, then thoroughly clean it before re-installing it.

Bob knows more than I do but I have to ask, "does it leak?"
I think the lid is spring loaded, is that what you are talking about? Like Bob says, it should not protrude but if it tightens and doesn't leak that is probably good.
