Tisco Strikes Again

Ordered this new muffler 6 months ago or so.
Finally got around to opening to install it.
It's primered! They even put the sticker over the primer.
You can tell it used to be stainless.
I wonder if they even used high temp primer?
Maybe I should blame Stanley instead of Tisco.
Either way, I will open everything the day it arrives from now on.

I don't like Tisco junk but on a muffler they all
burn off and rust as far as I have ever seen..If u
find a high temp paint that is worth buying i'd like
to know about it..Tks

I don't see the manual, but I do see that they are advertizing the FO-4.!!!????
Think I would call them to find out where the manny is!!

Ha! Manual would be worth more than this muffler!
Ah well, off to grill some chicken for the granddaughters b-day! :)

(quoted from post at 13:04:12 08/30/14) Typical Stanley muffler.

Like most mufflers, it is not stainless.

Dean
True Dean, stainless was a poor choice of wording.
Still, it was not intended to be primered/painted.

I bought mine from this site. Pipe included. Mine were gray too. But
it seems to be holding up well. They have a good deal on them
here. Bought 3 plus other items at one time. Shipping was only $9

my last stanley muffler was for my 4600. it was not primered.. but did have a hi temp silver paint.

I say hi temp as i ran it a couple weeks to see if it would burn off, before painting it with hi temp black over it.

primer huh... wonder if it burns off?

I might have to get better pictures to prove it, but this is
definitely primer. I do a lot of painting. I do know the difference.
I can buy the same muffler at TSC with no primer. Grrr.

I wasn't doubting you.. just wondering if it is high temp primer... if so.. you can put hi temp black or silver over it

Gotcha SG, but without running it first, how do I know if high
temp paint will work or if that primer is just cheap azz primer?
I would have preferred to just have a plain metal muffler.
TSC sells them, maybe I'll just go there and buy one instead of
guessing on this one since it is "quality unknown".
At least at TSC I know quality is next to nothing.
Same Stanley muffler.

i've seen big differences in one stanley to the next.

the stanley on my farmall C is no better than a straight pipe... really... I have A-B'd them I have a straight pipe and the stanley and there is NO diff in sound.. the stanley cost 50$ and the pipe was 5$ :) go figure

the stanley on my ford 4600 takes it down from deafening to just a roar... :)

now donaldson.. there's one i like!

Happen to know off hand, what the Donaldson # would be for an NAA? Mine if fine for now but for future reference.

Thanks,

Riddle me this, maybe you have tried it?
Hundred series Ford with the muffler normally under the gas tank.
With the full under belly exhaust, I don't think there would be a
lot of difference in noise with no muffler at all.
How about the heat on the bottom of that tank though?
Would no muffler reduce the heat?
I have two with verticals. One with the muffler under the hood
and one straight pipe with the muffler above the hood.
Neither one really have heat issues. Just wondering.

got one C that I put an old header flanged 'Cherry Bomb' muffler on.(fit over the pipe nicely, with the flange resting square on the manifold)
Looks good, sounds great, and is pretty much indestructible

I should insulate mine from the tank . . . is there nuff room for a heat shield? I'll take the temp of the gas when the pipes have been hot for a spell.

Blanket of shiny aluminum backed insulation, reflecting the heat away, up under the tank. With a seriously overheated engine, you can't keep your hand on the valve cover . . . so there's even additional rising heat.

But the warm gas just enhances vaporization anyway. :D

Your Jubilee should already have a heat shield above the muffler.
Looks like this one.

I just bought a stanley for my Case Sc. it was not
primed. can you buy a tractor muffler that is not a
stanely? If so where?

"can you buy a tractor muffler that is not a stanely?"

Yes. Donaldson. I don't have a local supplier in my area.
You might try eBay or check out the Donaldson website.

"I can not figger what you are belching about"

I'm complaining about the wasted time dealing with that primer.
You know, can't pay the bills wasting time cleaning off primer, replacing
usable screws in carbs or making motorcycle muffler clamps by hand. ;)

I don't like Stanley mufflers any more than you. They're junk.
I wish I had a local alternative that looked similar to original.

Its probably just as EZ to paint the whole thang as it is to paint the welds were the inlet and outlet pipe go into the muffler..
