ford 2n oil canister

I have wire brushed were gasket sets torn the canister apart and oil still leaks were rubber gasket is .when changed oil previous owner had 2geasket and 2 copper washers

My 8-N could be a pain with that gasket too--so I bought the changeover kit off E-Bay and destroyed the originality of my machine with a very nice spin on filter set up. Found a real good deal on a case of filters, and now just laugh when it's change time. Course, it cost a few bucks, and no one convinced me that this way of filtering is at least as good as stock, but you know---I don't care either. It's simple and I think excellent, it even looks nicer on the side of the engine. Good luck with yours.

Tom, with clean surfaces and a new gasket sealing shouldn't be a problem, and the system should withstand quite a bit of pressure without leaking.

On the other hand, if the discharge/outlet side of the filter canister or the path to dump the oil into the governor housing is clogged somewhere, pressure in the canister will be higher than is should be.

I am apparently a dolt here, but are you talking about the seal
around the bolt, or the seal around the outside lip of the can?
The copper washer comment makes me think the center bolt.

In that case you may also want to check the cover to make
sure it is not warped. Sometimes a thicker cork gasket will work.
I would still check/clean the oil line as Bob suggested.

I will clean the lines and see if that works. If not i can pick up a used canister from a local salvage for 30$ or try a thicker gasket the rubber one is tin that i got with a wix filter.are the fram gaskets thicker i had no problems with my 8n . This 2n i have

I'm not going to pick on brands, seen problems on all of them.
With today's questionable quality control on new parts, Nothing is a given.
Always check to see if the included O-ring/gasket is [b:ba4122be16]exactly[/b:ba4122be16] the right diameter.
Probably every third filter I get, it's wrong.
Very noticeable on some tractors that have a deep groove for it.
sigh......you'd think they could get that right at least....

Echoing previous experience, for me it was very rare that the rings coming in new filter element boxes, were ever the right ones . . . and I've had several 50's vehicles with canister filters.

So almost every time, I wound up reusing the ring gasket that it already had and I've NEVER had a leak. The ring gasket should fill the flat recess [b:6763006081]and be snug to the outside edge of the cover recess.[/b:6763006081]

After cleaning and a light oiling I put the lid on but by holding it down against the spring pressure and rotating it back and forth a half inch at a time till I feel like I have the best seating positioning and then I tighten it down. Sometimes flipping the gasket over is called for.

I am actually contemplating putting one on my NAA even though it has the "new improved and convenient" spin-on.

T :)
