Update re: Tisco strikes again

I was in my local TSC store this morning so I looked at the
mufflers they had. All of the Stanley mufflers were poorly
primered so I think this is a "new to me" thing from Stanley.

I peeled the paper sticker and found this:

So I decided to try just washing it with lacquer thinner.
Turned out pretty good I guess and no paint required.

Replacement mufflers are painted only to prevent rust before sale. It is not intended that the paint will withstand the heat of operation or even the elements after installation.

Replacement automotive pipes and mufflers were simply oiled (not painted) to prevent storage rust in years past.

Two separate companies.

I believe (someone correct me if I am wrong), that this very site is a TISCO reseller, as well.

Yes, it is.

Tisco is Tractor and Industrial Supply Company.

TSC is Tractor Supply Company. TSC and Tisco do seem to source SOME of their parts from the same supplier, but Tisco has a WHOLE BUNCH of parts that TSC has totally forgotten about.

If that's what they have decided to do, it is a VERY poor choice.
Primer, unless it is Urethane or similar is not water proof.
This stuff was obviously not Urethane, it basically washed right off.
The primer then has to be removed to boot. They should have stuck
with the oil that all my other Stanley mufflers had to prevent rust.
Brake drums and rotors come to mind as well.

ya must live right Royce.
How'd ya get that sticker off so cleanly with no glue mess? LOL

Mufflers are really getting to be a problem for our old stuff.
crimps are trash, baffles a joke, and wow, are they thin gauge.
recently bought one for an AC, and I think it's louder than nothing at all.
metal is so thin, it 'echos'

Gonna have to watch sales for old motorcycle mufflers.
I put an old Harley muffler on a Farmall A, sounds good,
and that bike muffler is super tough construction.
