Ot: siding house

We started last night on my mother in laws attached garage wall. The window that was in it was leaking water into the garage when we had rain with a strong e/ne wind. Took most of the Masonite siding down last night. Went this morning and picked up everything needed to replace it plus the "special order" window due to odd size. Since the pic we have house wrap all the way up. Started off using ladders and decided we better go rent some scaffolding...did I mention yet I'm terribly afraid of heights...so it was quite interesting doing the house wrap. I did manage to take the carb off the 8n I sold and have to deliver this week. It had rust in it at the carb intake the inside bowl was good. I imagine during one of our down pour rains water go in the carb throat beings there was only 1 hose clamp on it. So I cleaned the rust out. Used brake cleaner to make sure everything was open after unplugging one hole with wire and air because I didn't have carb cleaner. Put the top back on put it back on tractor no new parts or gaskets needed and she now runs w/o having to use choke to keep it running. Now I can save the new carb kit for one of the others. Tomorrows agenda get the Masonite siding on and get it painted.. Supposed to rain tomorrow. We spent almost a grand just on this wall of the garage. I can't imagine what it would cost to do the whole house.

Looking good - lots of hard work -- as far as cost is concerned, would take three lifetimes to pay for an average , new house these days..

I added a 12X12 handicap bathroom on my house in 2011 $20,000.
In 09 a kitchen remodel $15,000. Going to replace the roof the fall around $11,000... Replaced the HVAC in 2013 $4500... I did a remodel of the first house I brought last fall $25,000. I redid all the plumbing and electrical plus most of the paint it took me and a helper are two 60 days... I am in the process of finishing up closing in the sun porch just me and my son now hope to have it finished in a few days... I am put'n the hot water heater, washer and dryer out side on the porch I want the big water users/leakers out of the house GRRRR! That's what caused all the trouble....

If I walk out of lowes and have brought less than $100 I search my pockets because I must have stole something...

Off to lowes not to return a piece of OSB and get a couple more tubes of caulk I hope that's it

Sounds like youve been busy. I'm afraid if we ever
move out there that will be the case with her house
too.

Over in Europe, it is taking up to 5 generations to actually payoff the mortgage of a single family dwelling. Just saw a program about it on PBS.

My first house has Masonite siding its held up well no complaints. The lower boards have gave some issues I replaced them with Hardie board planks... If I ever have to do it all are one end like Y'all are doing it would be Hardie board....

I forgot last year also rapped the soffits with aluminum and vinyl..
The killer when I add the bath I did not have the extra at that time to rap the hole house just the bath was $600 he said he would do the hole house for $2400... I got him to come back and do the rest I ended up with $3200 in it... It cost me to not have it all done all at one time...

Edit the Bath price my wife's long term health insurance paid $8K on the handicap upgrades...

Hey now there's an idea. Could have used the jubilee with loader! I've never done siding but so far its going good. About half done. Got rained out half the day.

Its crazy prices for houses around here..probably why I live in an apartment. Cost to do that wall probably isn't too bad if the lasts the 50yrs they say Masonite does.
