OT Hydraulics

I have inherited a home made backhoe. When the hydraulic oil gets warmed up, it works poorly. The closest cylinder will barely lift the arm when warm, but does well otherwise and the other cylinders slow down quite a bit. Two of the cylinders were rebuilt and should not be the problem. I"m guessing the problem is a worn pump that doesn"t do well when the oil gets warm? Either that or an issue with the relief valve? What is the best way to figure out my problem. I would rather not just replace parts until I hit the right one.

Try a thicker oil or add a pressure gauge to the system. Low pressure means a weak pump and it thick oil jump pressure again weak pump

If the boom cylinder will stay put after the control valve is back in neutral it is probably a worn pump.

Northern Hydraulics has some pretty reasonably priced pumps and so does Surplus center.

Also look on Ebay.
