Good tight 1957 640 6 volt been in family since grandpa purchased in 1957. Brother took it to do some brush hogging ran for 2 hours and started missing. Replaced points and cond and checked fuel flow and all was well. 2 hours later same thing. Replaced battery and coil still missing bad. Replaced points and cond again runs fine. 2 hours later missing. Replaced points and cond. again and all is well. What could be making points and cond fail so fast?? Please HELP!!
Thanks!!

Where are you buying the points? Are you lubing them as required. Some are a lot better than others I like NAPA.

Should not have such issues if you buy quality contact sets, e.g., Std Ign., Blue Streak, NAPA (Echlin) premium, Sorensen, premium, etc.

Do expect problems if you buy inexpensive Mexican, Chinese, etc. points.

Cheap TSC points made in the land of close to right is likely to be your problem but good one like Dean says

I am holding a set of points, or rather the box, NAPA, echlin, MADE IN MEXICO. They are good points>

Put in a set from napa and all is ok now. We will see in a couple of hours. I did not know if something else could cause it to ruin points and cond or not. Sounds like bad luck and bad parts. Oh well lesson learned THANKS ALL!!

Open condenser will burn points

Oily points will burn

Too close of gap will burn points

Too high primary current will burn points, note, round coil on 6v needs no resistor, if it is the correct 6v round coil
