I have a Ford 8N with a wagoner loader. The hyd pump
driven off the front of the engine is leaking oil
badly. Is it possible to obtain a kit or seals to
repair this. What usually goes bad on them.
Thank you

Seals go bad and hard parts wear out. You may be able to find some of teh generic seals but likley not the specialty ones or any hard parts. It's a 60 year ould pump and I would replace it with a new one industry standard gear pump - $100 to $125 depending on exactly what you need. The pump mount on the loader may require minor modifications.

If you look hard enough you can rebuild them. My pumps are bother Vickers.

I researched all over the web and got a number from the folks who now deal with vickers. (Eaton Corp I believe). Got a hold of an old timer who was more than willing to help. He remembered those old pumps and therefore emailed me a good bit of info.

I downloaded all other parts manuals and schematics and break out charts that I could find. I rebuilt 2 Vickers vain pumps. Replaced the vains bearings, o-rings, seals and used Timken bearings. I had to true up the surfaces on the pump housings and rotor housings not to mention the internal cutout in the rotor housing where the vains ride against. I tued up the metal surfaces using a belt sander mounted upside down in a vice. Used a heavy grit belt to take off metal (as minimal as possible) and moved up to a 300-400 grit to smooth everything out.

I rebuilt the original pump that I had on my dearborn loader and another that I purchased off of ebay for $70 that was slightly larger than the one I had.

I rebuilt them just so that I can say I did and learn from it.
But....as TOH said and he is a wealth of info in this area, replacing the entire pump with a new style gear driven variety is the best way to go. Both economically, emotionally.

I doubt he has a Vickers vane pump. According to the parts manuals Wagner used gear pumps on the WM and WF series loaders.
