9n PTO Shaft

Afternoon, I was wondering how difficult it is to convert to the 1 3/8 pto shaft. Also the best place to purchase one. Thanks

very simple if you buy the kit that already has the shaft and bearings pressed into the hub.All you do is drain the fluid,, remove the four bolts and swap the hub/shaft assembly. if you buy just the shaft. Then you have a project.
if you can find a hill to park the tractor on(facing downward) you can swap them without draining the transmission fluid.

This site sells the slide in assy for just over 100$, that's as cheap as any.

Assuming your old shaft ain't twisted, its as complicated as pulling 4 bolts the sliding old out, new in with new gasket, if oil is good, park nose down so you don't loose any oil. I can't think of an easier repair on an n, assuming no twisted shaft, if it is twisted, it jumps up to about the difficulty of a clutch job

I am curious, Is there a draw back to using an adapter?

I ask cause I too have an 1 1/8" splined PTO shaft. I have kept it that way since most of what attaches to the PTO that I own is 1 1/8". For when I need a 1/3/8" I have an adapter that slides over the PTO.

My notion of the downside to an adapter would be this: They can be the basis for additional shaft wobble... creating more wear...

Any shaft that can be connected by hand WILL have some play or clearance if you prefer. But unless one starts with a new 1 1/8 shaft and uses a high quality adapter, the net result is one more connection adding play and wear to the system.

In addition, one can end up shortening the machines PTO shaft due to the additional length of the adapter.

In the end, it is still your call.

You can adapt via orc, but as said adds length and possible play if the 1 1/8 shaft is worn, there is also a 6" stub converter that makes the stub look like 1 3/8, no orc, and better fit that the thin 2" sleeve jobs.

As said, your call
