Remember? I have a new water pump that needs longer studs to fit? I didn't really want to pull the studs if I could get the right part so I tried to order another water pump.
OReilly listed a rebuild, so I thought I was set. Nope -- This one is obviously for a different engine.
Tried NAPA next. No rebuilds available from their vendor. They could order a new one from Georgia, but it would take a while and would cost four times as much as the one I already have. I was wondering if it would have the same problem as the one I already have.
I decided to bite the bullet and see if the studs would come out. Fifteen minutes later and I had all three removed with no real problems. One was a little hard to get the stud removal tool on, but not too bad. I don't think it would have been any easier if I had removed the hood and radiator first.
OReilly had the right studs in stock (they're packaged as carburetor studs in a pack of four). They are 5/16 as someone thought before.
A little more work and the new pump now fits fine. RTV says to let cure until tomorrow before filling. Guess we'll see then if it all works OK.
