Radius Rod comparison

I was scrolling through some back pages and ran across a question about interchangeability of Ford radius rods.

I showed this comparison on another site some time back and still have the photo.

Starting at the top we have:

1. NAA/Hundred series. About 2" longer than 9N/2N and about 4" longer than 8N.
2. 8N. Shorter than 9N/2N due to the change in the front axle attachment point.
3. Ferguson TO-20. Not a Ford, but interesting that it pretty much matches the length of the Ford 9N and 2N rods below it.
4. Ford 2N beginning in 1944. Changed to the oval tube design.
5. Ford 9N and early 2N. I-beam style.

According to my memory, the 9N/2N rods (as well as the Ferguson TO rods) are a shade over 39" overall length. The 8N rod is about 37" and the NAA/X00 rod is about 41".

There are some differences to the clevis design also that I won't get into unless you want me to.

Nice of you to post that sort of historical information. Thanks. Hope all is going well.

I ..for one am eternally grateful for the wealth of knowledge on this board !! Now if everyone else could remember the past... We'd be set!

we used to have a member hear that had an 8n/fergy to30 hybred.

he went to change the N pto shaft and it would not fit... because it was fergy.

met him and 4 other members at a show a few times.

And I think I posted these photos as a followup to your post over there.
Shown are the radius rods from an 8N and an early 3000.
They are exactly the same length and would interchange but notice how much beefier the 3000 one is.

Is it just the perspective of the photo, or is the I-beam 9N/2N rod slightly longer than the oval tube 2N rod?
