Starter problem

Can"t get the starter to turn when pushing the starter button on
my 52 8n. I can use a screw driver and jump across the starter
post and it starts easily. Is it the solenoid?

the oem N solenoid needs the small terminal grounded to work, and it needs to be correctly oriented.

if it was working and stopped working. check the wire between the thumb button and the solenoid. if it is good. check to see if the thumb button goes to ground when pushed using an ohm meter... if not.. time to change the button.

if both those tests pass, and you find that grounding the lil terminal don't make it pull in.. then yup. bad solenoid.

Possibly. If you have the original push button on the top of the
transmission that grounds the solenoid when you push it to start,
try connecting a jumper wire from the small terminal on the
solenoid to chassis ground or the grounded terminal of the battery.
Make sure it's in neutral so you don't run yourself over.

That small terminal by the way should be pointed in toward the
engine. It won't work if pointed out without some rewiring.

If that works, the solenoid is good. Wire to the push button may
be broken, or the push button may be bad. We can test that too.

If you have any of the many other setups that have been added
through the years I would need more info on what you have.
