Ford red color comparison experiment

I always scratch something on re-assembly, so while I was cleaning
and painting I thought I'd tinker with a couple of different paints.
The air cleaner in this picture was painted with Valspar Ford red
thinned with Naptha, painted from a regular old HVLP paint gun.
The oil breather cap on top was painted with Majic brand Ford
red from a rattle can.
They're not an exact match, the Majic is less orange/more red,
but they are a lot closer than I thought they would be.

Yes, that's it. This was a rattle can though.
What comes in a real paint can may not match that.
Just my experience with other brands.

Thanks for the comparison.
I like a little more red than orange, so I'll keep it in mind.

I think you said you have Farmalls too?
On my Fords and Farmalls, I wanted a cheap paint that would work on both for worker tractors.
Settled on Rustoleum Regal Red.
A little dark and red for the Fords,
a tad light and too bright for the Farmalls,
but close and looks good on both.
(perfect on old Wheel Horse tractors too)
Traded a few away, and buyers never commented on the 'wrong' color.
(buyers memories from their youth will fool them sometimes.
I've painted a few Fords with the correct colors to sell, and buyers ask "Why's it 'orange'?")

Rustoleum Sunrise Red was tried too. Nice color, much too light for the Farmalls. And in the right light, or with some age on it.....pink. LOL, I'll stick with Regal Red.

I and some others use CNH 2150 Rouge red on Farmalls and fords... Other that their rattle cans being pricey it drys fast and holds up extremely well. When you spray it with a gun you can use standard automotive thinners and hardeners... Their rattle cans match perfect to the bulk canned paint and applied correctly with harder can be handled in a few hours...

I have not brought a gal of 2150 in awhile it use to be $45 at that price I would not fudge with that cheap chit most use...

Yes, I have Farmalls too. And AC, Case, Deere etc.
I've used the Rustoleum also. It doesn't turn out bad.
This 8N was all Rustoleum. Including the back blade.
Mixed the gray from some very light gray and black.
Buyer didn't complain here either!

Hobo I really like the idea of being able to use standard reducer
and hardener. I've even thought about trying it in this paint.
Haven't done it though. I wonder if they'll drop ship that paint.
Rattle cans in other brands are FAR from matching the bulk paint.

Thanks for this tip also. nice on the standard auto stuff compatibility. I'll put that number on my phones 'parts list'
for when I CRS or remember the paper I wrote it down on.
I do try to get some of my stuff from CNH once in a while.
They're close, and I want to keep them there......

My understanding its a modified synthetic enamel I use NAPA 51118 (martin Senour) hardner. Anywho that's the info I picked up on the Paint and resto board...

Research shows it is an acrylic modified alkyd enamel containing UV inhibitors..
