So this is maybe a year away...restoring the 9n with 32's depending on funds after we get done with the 51 with Sherman combo(but we have to start that first)......we all know steel into aluminum was a horse sh*t idea...and im guessing someone on this forum has removed the hood ect from the aluminum dash....whats the best way to go about it? I have a spare lower piece but not upper so I don't want to crack it when the time comes. Maybe someone has some majic solution to remove bolts? Im always up for learning new info!

A bit of heat an then a good bit of ATF work the best for me. Do it all the time on not just tractors but motorcycles where steel bolts are use in aluminum

Practice on something similiar that you don't care about. Learn how to do it before you tackle your good parts. Don't get in a hurry

Perfect will try atf and heat....on the other broken aluminum dash first. Maybe I should start presoaking them now?

I have 5 9Ns with various aluminum parts. I have not
had any issues in removing bolts. I would be
judicious using heat around aluminum.

Where did you get that idea? Apparently it has been missed by our modern manufacturing industry which installs tens if not hundreds of millions of steel fasteners in aluminum components every year. Go look under the hood of any modern car and you will find lots of examples.

Corrosion happens with time and exposure to weather. Pentrants and the judicous use of force is the cure regardless of the materials involved.

TOH

PS> As a corollary to that I recently became a BMW owner and I have quickly discovered that BMW has replaced many of the steel bolts in their engines with aluminum ones. It achieves a nice weight savings but they are not reusable and have to be replaced with new ones every time they are removed. Want to guess where you get replacement aluminum bolts ;-)

I keep an old JD pumper oil can full of ATF for freeing up parts. Found ATF is cheaper and works better then PB blaster does

Well to be honest that one came from my other half....hes the one who thinks it a horse sh*t idea....maybe because its usually a problem in older applications in his experience.
