ford 600 starter button on transmission

I have a ford 600 tractor i think starter button is bad looks like u have to take the trans cover off to replace the button is that right . also has on wire going to it does the button act as a ground to start the engine , can i just ground the wire on the starter button to get the tractor started so i can move it . THANKS for any help.

"looks like u have to take the trans cover off to replace the button"

Correct.

"does the button act as a ground to start the engine"

Yes. If you have the wrong solenoid or have the battery cables
wired backwards on the solenoid, it will not work though.

"can i just ground the wire on the starter button to get the tractor started"

You sure can. Make 100% sure it's in neutral because you
are also bypassing the neutral safety switch.

You can also use a jumper cable lead and connect one side of
the solenoid to the other. Same NS switch warning.

This should help.

i think it was kinda neat that we both sent in a article on that at the same basic time with no knowledge of the other doing it. and the articles were virtually identical. :)

Bruce does that same procedure in this article apply to an 8N/? I need to do this on a friends 1951 8N shortly. I have the manual but would like a copy of this article before doing the work. Would it be possible for you to email a copy to me? Email open. Thanks.

" Bruce does that same procedure in this article apply to an 8N/?"

Yep.

I wrote the article & sent pics using one of my N's; Chris did the same thing w/ his 600.
