Every Year...

..when it starts getting this deep into August, it starts getting 97-100F...and about 60-70% humidity and I just wilt like a flower under that noon day sun. I lose all available energy and just want to go to bed. Too hot to even sit in the shade. I hate going to work this time of the year and having to do anything outside...good grannies! I just can't take the heat anymore and sure not with the danged old high humidity way down here in the south...yuck! Being 58 is starting to suck. I was helping my oldest boy clear up some on the four acres we gave him across the street, last week. I had cut down a large oak tree (the one that hit the power lines and went zap snap poof. I let all the smoke out for the neighborhood at one time...lol. They just reset the line fuses, no damage. Anyway, the dang starter gave out on the 8N and I had to finish cleaning up the large limbs etc ( he had already left ) by hand and I just about died. I was getting so dang weak that I had to lay down on the tailgate of the truck several times. When I finished, I just about could not make myself drive the 200 yards to my house. I don't know, I just start getting shaky and sick feeling. I should have stopped and gotten more water, but I am the sort to just push on through and get done right now. Gonna kill me one day, maybe. I thought getting older meant getting wiser? I seem to be going the other direction...lol  It's getting to 98 tomorrow and then 99 Friday and 100 through the weekend. Oh, and the blasted humidity. The red-head has been on my arse about losing 30 lbs, but you how dang hard that is...ice cream is my favorite of course. I guess I am going to have to have a come-to-Jesus-meeting about the belly , or it's lights out for me...arrggghhh! BTW, where did that 30 lbs come from? I just woke up one day and pow....it stuck to me...must be the humidity...yeah, that's it

This can be serious! Found out the hard way. I had the exact same symptoms for 2 or 3 years. Always rested a few minutes and hit it again. Thought it was just age catching up with me. Seeing cardiologist for 3 years, had nuclear stress test, etc., etc. Then last September, at age 58, was putting my 5000 back together from replacing the clutch and it hit me. Could hardly walk from the shortness of breath and chest pressure, but no pain. Took a shower and had daughter take me to ER. Widowmaker! Had heart cath next day & 100% blockage. 2 stents and back to work in 3 days. Feel better than I've felt in 5 years! More stamina and energy! Please get yourself checked out. Be a shame for someone else to get that 8N!

It sound like it could have been heat stoke coming on but it
would be a very good idea to go get some blood work done
and get the blood pressure checked.
I lived almost 50 years old and never was seriously sick until
last year when I was busted out by my daughter and wife
when the noticed I was having body tremors when I exerted
my self.
They sent me to the Cardiologist I had my blood pressure
spiking when I was having the tremors.
It turned out that all of the symptoms I had been ignoring for
the last four years had a cause, I never related any of them to
anything more than being over active.
Tired all the time.
Hand tremors
Full body tremors
Dizzy spells
Hand and leg cramps
Hands and feet getting extremely hot
Blurred vision
My hair turned gray in less than a years time
Shortness of breath
When I had the blood work done I found out that I have
Graves' disease it attacks your thyroid which can and will
cause all of the above symptoms.
I take a pill I. The morning now to control a hyper active thyroid
and all of the symptoms are gone
But the bottom line is once I figured out that I must take my
medication everyday I feel better than I did for the last three
years
Almost 50 now but I still feel like my 40s
Chalk it up to I quit being hard headed and better living
through chemistry.
Go see a doctor it's no joke.
Sending prayers that you quit procrastinating the going to the
doctor.

"I thought getting older meant getting wiser?"

Sometimes wisdom comes with age; sometimes age comes alone.
Get a physical. Let the doctor know your symptoms.
It might be just a little extra weight. Maybe not.

I would get that heart checked pronto. I started to have those same problems with humidity and heat last year. Never bothered me before, I did have five stents but never felt like this. Two weeks ago I got a Quad bypass. Despite the recovery aches and pains I feel lots better as to how heat affects me now...

you won't get any sympathy from me. my brother sounded like you but refused to see a doctor. he dropped over dead one day at age 56.

Deffinately get the heart checked.

it was just a few months shy of 4ys ago when i walked into the emergency clinic with chest pain...

I'm 30# lighter now, eat better and exercise more, My wake up call came in time and I answered it before it got any worse!

I just went to the doc twice recently and blood work was ok. BP is ok. Just heavier than i need to be.

many of those symptoms sound the same as I had. But, I have to take thyroid medication because I don't have enough.

I'm thinking you are correct. I best see a cardiologist soon. Every now and then, I get a sharp pain in my chest on the left side and it doesn't go away for quite a while.

I go to my general MD every 4 months and everything is usually pretty good. Just have to adjust the thyroid meds occasionally.

I never had it quite that bad before. I'm surprised I didn't stroke out, really. I guess I need to go to the doc and tell him what happened. SWMBO will go too and tell him how dang bad I am....probably make him give me a lobotomy or something...lol

Heat exhaustion, stopping short of a heat stroke. Been there. South east Texas here.

We heat our home mostly with wood and I produce all our firewood from our woods. I love doing that but I usually do the cutting, bucking, splitting and stacking in the winter time. Occasionally, I need to take a tree down in the summer. Doing all that work when it's 100 degrees or better and humidity almost as high, just kicks my butt. I promised my bride of 40 years that if I ever feel sick again I will set down the chain saw or put down the maul. Or get off the tractor. Or get out from under my 68 Mustang. Whatever I'm doing, Just stop.

I've spent hours on my 8N out shredding the meadow in intense heat. I kind of get into the zone and pretty much block off the world while I'm out there. I forget to take a break and drink some water. Last year, I nearly blacked out. Not good when you're pulling a bush hog. I headed over to a big shade tree and could hardly make myself turn the key off and limp over to the tree where I pretty much collapsed. I did manage to retrieve my water bottle. I don't think I passed out but it was almost half an hour before I snapped to.

It's pretty dangerous out there in intense heat and high humidity- on farm machinery or using power tools.
I just turned 62. I'm really in pretty good shape and carry an extra five pounds, at most. Still, I know how you feel, GW.

I know how you feel. I just had my 60th earlier this month. I still feel good but, 60 ain't 50, or 40, or even 30 and it sure as heck ain't 20. LOL
I find that I have to pace myself now, and sometimes I just have to quit for awhile. At 60 I still kick, just not as hard, or as high, but I can still kick!

That heat takes it toll it gets like that here its 95 now. I can not work out in the sun like I use to at 50 I found that out... I can work in the shop till about 100 with no problems.

I have low sugar it hits me like that I can feel it coming stop and eat/drink a lite snack and feel like a new man... Till I found this out I about passed out a few times...

I've heard it said that the only thing GOLD about the GOLDEN YEARS, is your pee..... at 69, I'm a believer!! ... eh ......

Get checked out for your peace of mind.
But, hard work in heat, humidity, with the sun too, can beat ya down.
Put in a long day dragging, piling limbs, trees, after a tree service
trimmed my row of screen trees from 30' to 6'.
Pretty humid today.
However much water you think you need, double it.
Every half to one hour or so, 3-4 glasses of water and one over my head.
You'd think you would slosh when you walk, but no.
If your water gets low, your body will start shutting down, shakes, weak, etc.
And like said, don't let your stomach get empty. Hard work needs fuel. or same result.
too hot to eat when working, but grabbing a hard boiled egg, etc, every hour or two will keep you strong without the shakes.

Found out I can still run pretty fast after stepping on a yellow jacket hole under the trees. They only got me a half dozen times, could have been worse.

Always keep a water soaked hankerchief on top of your head and under your straw hat.

Each time you want to wipe the sweat from your brow, it will be amazing how COOL the wet hankerchief is.

And, when the supper bell rings, you already have "cleaned-up" before eating.

Keep the water bottle full and always re-wet the hankerchief.

Hay baleing time, here, along with weat and oats threshing. Non airconditioned tractor.

Sounds like your body needs more salt. They are always talking about people using too much salt but I know first hand what getting to low on salt is. 40+ years ago putting hay in the mow I got overcome with heat, heaves for hours befor they setteled down, when Dr could finally see me had to drink salt water to replentish the salt in my body. Since that time I know when I an getting low and use extra salt on food and as soon as I do I can start to feel better. About 4 year ago had a heart attac and 5 bypasses. Now my heart Dr. is complaining about me using too much salt. Well I am not cutting back to where I was those 40+ years ago because Dr. does not understand that problem and believes salt is bad for you, not good. Just a couple of weeks till I hit the 71 mark.

I"d have my blood sugar checked, I""m fighting off diabetes with
diet and exercise. Your symptoms sound like low blood sugar.
I"ve given up all sweets, try to walk 2 to 3 miles 3 to 4 days a
week. I feel a lot better.

Man, if I eat something sweet...I perk right up! I saw one time, on the news, that we actually have a sweet gene in the chromosomes.
