Hey Forum Chums,

Working on the Hi Crop 8n conversion....ready to pull the king pin....I am gonna have to fabricate a tool to pull it....or adapt a slide hammer....from guys who have done it....any input as to how to proceed would be greatly appreciated...gonna go work my tool fabrication!!....any ideas on the tool fabrication ...great also!!

Duh Ed,
Maybe just take the whole shebang apart and drive out from the backside!!!
Well that just came to me after I hit enter on the first query!!!

Took a large bolt...rounded the nut.....used as driver...pin moved second shot.....whole job...10 minutes....Priceless!!

Douglas....OUT!

Hmmm, I have one of those to do real soon now too.
Hope mine comes out that easily! Glad it worked out for the best!

Great job. They're usually not that stuck...at least in my experience. Keep that old pin around as a driver for the next job, as HCook says.

Yeah really.....originally I looked at the IT manual and it showed a picture of what was obviously a special tool and the Tech in the picture was tapping at it with a hammer to "pull" it out as opposed to driving it from behind....I thought for a split second of fabricating something...or adapting a slide hammer....work over time...hands down....pull the whole assembly ...drive it out!!!

Ed, the tool you saw being used to remove the pin in the manual is the engine hand crank. Seems awful light duty for the job at hand.

Thanks Del for that info....neat to know...and yes...two really good blows with my heavy punch into PB blaster soaked puddle with a two pound hand sledge just break it free....then a lot more to drive it out....can't imagine you could ever remove in that other fashion....slide hammer??......maybe...and still not sure!!

If it is in the slightest bit corroded or stuck (and they almost always are) a slide hammer used in place of the hand crank described in the FO-4 manual will pull the flanged end off the pin. Wanna guess how I know that :?:

If you want to used a "puller" of any sort a threaded plug installed in the the rear provides a nice solid pull point .....
