You make the call

Greetings Forum Chums.....the 11.2 X 38 Firestones are on the rims....about to be put on...Lord help me...can I even climb onto this thing when it is done??....ramp?? step ladder??...running start???.....Now...since this is "our" project....what color for the inner wheel and lug nuts....to grey...or to red....that is the question...since Hi Crops were after market....there is no way to pontificate..."well, anyone can tell you that originally......" I have seen them done both ways...both look great....I lean red....What say Ye friends??
And oh, not going to mention the cost of those tires to Mrs. D......bad plan!!!

These didn't come through ...submitting again

They look great. Waiting to see the finished product.

" can I even climb onto this thing when it is done??."

Ha! I'm 5'6", so getting on my 740 is a trip!

" what color for the inner wheel and lug nuts"

Well........

I'd go w/gray on the disc & silver lug nuts....but then again, I would have done the rims in silver!

" And oh, not going to mention the cost of those tires to Mrs. D"

None of my old tractors cost me more than $1000....just ask my wife! :)

And I'm equally sure she has never paid more than $50 for a pair of shoes, either.

great pictures us newbies learn a lot from pictures, for instance I didn't know rims could be made with angle iron connected to solid inner rim. more pics.

Yes Bob....if you look closely at the rims.....they do not match....one is definitely a production rim...the other is a home fabrication...only you guys will know...lol....
Lots of companies were making things for the Ford N Series line.....Notably Funk Air Craft, Souder, and the Sherman brothers....the one tractor with the with red rims is a real gem....I have seen those particular production rims on other tractors and in books on restoration...so far no one could give me the name of the company....they are actually adjustable.....lets just say that if I ever come across a set at an auction....everyone WILL be out bid....anyway...restoration and wrenching are just a hoot!!

....."but then again, I would have done the rims in silver!"
Bruce...you have no idea how long I agonized over that one....I really like that look...as memory serves...you did yours up like that...and they are pictured that way in the N Series Originality Guide....but disk to rim ratio is so lopsided on those rims....the are HUGE....thought it might be to much for the tradition accent ...and too much silver....I have second guessed that one a couple of times....Now you mention it....now what to do.....LOL
oh...and "the shoes"....we know we are both getting off easy my friend!!...Hey...if you get a minute..can you post a couple pics of your trio??

great project Ed, looks good
Wish I could do a Ford like that.
Here is a picture of my one of my Farmalls, a C with 12-44's on it (old sizing)
so you can see the other color scheme.
(don't look at the tractor too close, just an auction beater that I cleaned up a little to have something for those tires to go on)

One thing, when you take your first test drive, no worries.
These big wheel creations do flex some. Strange feeling the first time.....

Edit, dang, forgot to vote. My vote is for the first pic, all gray, with hubs and lugs the contrasting chassis color.

You might be right about that big of rim being too much silver.
Not sure. I think I would take one of those pictures and photoshop
it so I could see what it would look like before painting.
Ditto for the red centers. Might be too much red.
I like the classic paint scheme, like that in your first picture, but
that's personal preference of course. Here's one on my 8N project.

Sweet looking Brother.....yeah, you right about the red...but what did you think of the red rims on one of the pics?....I could do an all gray...no contrast though.....shoot.....maybe shoot them silver...we will see....one shot at right!!!

I expect that Ford modified rims in house for them, so they would not have been the original silver so I bet that they ended up the same gray as the centers. As for lug nuts I can't see that they would have had someone paint them red before assembly and certainly not after so they have to be cadmium'

Maybe to resolve your indecision, let the front wheels determine what the rears should be; i.e., focusing on how you'd like the fronts to be might cement your decision.
