8n not starting

I am trying to help someone get a 1950 8n running. It has been sitting for 3 years. I replaced all the ignition stuff and tore down teh carburator and soaked it and replaced the gaskets. It will fire and run as long as I spray starter fluid in the manifold. It will also try to start and run if I leave it sit for about 10 minutes. I think it is a carburator issue. Does anyone have any ideas on what we should check to get it started?

Sam;
My first thoughts/questions, would be.....
After setting for three yrs...
Nice bright, strong spark, on all four cyl.?????
Firing, 1243 counter clockwise????
Bright and tight wiring contacts.????
Check compression for possible stuck rings or valves????
Air to fuel properly set up on carb???

Last but NOT least,....ya may have missed a plugged passage in the carb, when you cleaned it!!!!!????
OR,....condinsation in the gas, from tank...and old fuel.
OR.....fuel restriction to carb.!!!???

If it starts and runs with ether.....Now your sparkies may be fouled/contaminated, and need to be cleaned up.!!!!

Just a few things, to check!!!

Sam........runs fer about 10-min is a fuel issue. Try loosening the cap 'cuz it sounds like the gastank vent (which you can't see or gitt-too) is CLOGGED by mud daubbers.

Many starts with ether-quick start is usually a LOW compression issue. The piston rings gitt stuck from using cheep non-detergent oil. Pour about 1-oz of ATF in each sparkie hole and letter sett fer a day. Do this fer 3-days. DO NOT TURN engine over with the sparkies in the cylinder head as you will HYDRAULICALLY LOCK yer piston and BREAK things. After 3-days of daily ATF treatment, turn the engine with NO SPARKIES to make certain all the ATF has drained pass the piston rings. ATF in engine oil will NOT hurt.

Now install NEW sparkies; recommend AutoLite 437's, gapped 0.025".

Keep yer itchy-twitchy fingers off'n them handy-dandy carb tweek'ums. Iff'n you been fuggin'round, set the down-pointing mainjet to 2-turns and leaveitt. Starting at 1/2-turn, adjust the side-point idle mix for MAXIMUM idle speed, NOT smoothest idle. Understand the difference? (Out is lean and IN is INRICH) Adjust the behind the carb, idle speed for less than 500-rpms. Do the idle mix adjust 3-times. Most of the time the idle mix will be about 1/8-turn. .......Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister
