Does anybody use a dwell meter?

For the 8N? If so, can you recommend one for me.
I "grew up" with straight 6's and my tune ups got better when I learned to use a dwell meter but I don't have one anymore.
Thanks,
Rick

Rick.......I use one on my eazy starting 52-8N. Dwell is 55-60deg. (0.025" gap) Onna 6-cyl, dwell would be about 36-40deg. Onna 8-cyl dwell would be about 27-30deg.

FYI......Dwell is the time the points are CLOSED. Some early dwell meters measured time as a percentage closed (100% is FullScale) vs modern dwell meters now using degrees. Either way, the engine hassta be "running".

Unfortunately, the weird 4-nipple frontmount does NOT give eazy access to both sides of the primary. Ittza still the old 2-bolt march. Unsnapple the capple and letter dangle; and adjust the points on the kitchen table. (0.015")

Caution, some dwell meters are polarity sensitive. Many dwell meters also can function as electronic tachometers. Tune yer M/S carb for MAXIMUM idle RPMs.....NOT.....smoothest idle. Understand the difference?

One neat thing about using a dwell meter, you don't haffta have "smooth points" like you do for a feeler gauge. (ie...burned points, sign of BAD condenser) One thing to watch out for on the sidemount 8N points, the rubbing block will wear.

We also recommend AutoLite 437 sparkies gapped 0.025in........Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

I have one that I was thinking about digging out, this is good info to have.

Mine is a dwell/tach combo unit. I just need to remember how to hook it up.
