Trying to help a neighbor find parts for one of these two cylinder odd ball tractors. Broken rod, piston and ruined crank etc. Sleeves.

It's Satoh and they are actually quirte common. Here is a link that may help you ID your neighbors machine.

If it is two cylinder probably the Model 630/630D - aka Satoh Bull with a Mitsubishi engine. Good luck finding those parts at a price that makes fixing it cost effective ;-)
