Resister readings

Working on 2N and replaced the resister to the coil. Checked it with meter, in was 11.89 volts, out was 4.5 or so. Had problems today and checked the resister again and it's reading 11 - 12 volts on both sides. Is this right? Am I reading the Fluke correctly? The old resister reads the same on both sides also. It does have six volt coil and 12V battery.

The voltage readings will change if the points are open or closed.

Points open, battery voltage. Points closed, about half that, depending on the coil & resistor values.

What resistors are you using & what are their values?

Why are you using a 6v coil? What is the internal resistance of the coil?
