CM Hall lights

Picked up a pair of CM hall lights over the weekend.
These aren't right for my 45' 2N, but I want to be sure what I
have. They came with the wings and backing plates (actually
what I was after).
After getting these home and looking them over, on the back
side are marked Hall Lamp, and are the larger headlights than
the ones for my 2N. These have sealed beam lights in them, so
someone must have changed them over the years, I always
thought these were bulb style.
The rings have 2 screw slots to hold them together. Strange one
ring is aluminum or chrome and the other doesn't seem to be.
But it is painted so it might be under the paint.
Can anyone send some closeup pics of Hall lights so I can
compare?

CM Hall also made the work lights which go on the back of the tractor. I don't have a picture on file but can't post one later. John Smith's web site has good pictures of these work lights.
 
I think the ones I have are slightly different. Mine dont have the tab to attach the rim. Has 2 screws on the front.
Size is the same. Must be for a different vehicle someone put on on a 9N.

Wow. It worked. The one without wings had a switch on the back, like I said dont have that one.

The only markings I found were at the base next to the bolt on back side. Those look from the outside exactly what I have.
Are those the larger diameter than the trac-to-lites on later Ns?

Here are the inside components, less the seal beam lights. If I remember correctly these lights were the same size as the Tract-O-Lite.

Ther light with the toggle switch is a work light. I would go ahead and use the others on your tractor.
 
What you have are the lights used by Ferguson on his TO20 when he built them in Detroit. The HALLAMP logo was the new one that the CM HALL Lamp Co. of Detroit used on the Ferguson models. You can always tell HALLAMPS by the two bezel screws in addition to the stamped logo. The big CM Hall truck headlights used on the Ford-Ferguson 9N and 2N tractors were supplied in the lighting kits offered by Ford Tractor dealers. In 1944, the sealed beam lamp was introduced to the world and then Ford released their new ‘Tract-O-Lite’ ™ headlamps with the ‘tear-drop’ style buckets. Ferguson maintained Hall as his lighting kit supplier up thru all of the models they produced. Now, I have seen the HALLAMP (Ferguson style) headlights on Ford tractors, and likewise, T-O-L headlights on Ferguson tractors. Electricity don’t really care who made the lights as long as polarity matches.

Interesting they supplied 2 different styles for the Ferguson and the Ford.

You need to understand the timeline here between Ford and Ferguson. CM Hall did not make two different headlights –one for Ford and one for Ferguson, well they did sort of, but not together. Ferguson was dissolved from the Ford Motor Company in 1946 and began building his TE20 in England. Ford supplied tractors to the Ferguson organization until June, 1947, then it was finished. July, 1947 saw Ford release the 8N tractor and Ferguson had so much success with his TE20 he built a factory in Detroit and built the TO20 beginning in 1948. OK, got that part of history? Now, The CM Hall Lamp Co. discontinued the big reflector type lamps in 1944 when the sealed beam headlight was introduced. Ford now made their Tract-O-Lite headlights at their Flat Rock, MI lamp factory and those became the lights supplied in lighting kits. Note there was a transition period so CM Halls were still available too to use up old stock. When Ferguson began building his TO20 tractor in Detroit, he used US suppliers, naturally, so he went to CM Hall and they had a newly designed headlight using the latest and greatest sealed beam lamp. This is the style as shown in the pictures below with Del showing the front of the lamps and Jason showing the back with the HALLAMP logo. As I said, the bezel is the giveaway as it has two screws. With the new Ferguson TO20 now in competition with the new Ford 8N model, one could go to either dealer to purchase a lighting kit, and many farmers did so, especially if a Ferguson dealer was closer than a Ford dealer. A Ford owner could easily have a set of the new HALLAMP lights as easily as a Ferguson TO20 owner having a set of Tract-O-Lites. Follow?
