9N tool box

I just acquired a 1940 9N Ford tractor. The tool box is attached to the hood. It looked like the sheet metal was indented for it to be attached, and it looked like a factory job, but I"ve never seen a tool box placed there. Has anyone else seen this placement, or is it just a pretty good job on a farmer fix?

Sounds like farmerization to me. It actually bolts to the battery tray on the left side I believe.

Here's a picture of a 40 9N with the tool box attached to the left side of the battery tray.

All the 9n and 2n tractors had the tool box on the left side of the battery box. It was an unhandy spot and a lot of them were moved by the farmer. My 9n had a Fordson tool box bolted to the left fender when I bought it.

(quoted from post at 08:35:00 08/10/14) Off topic but dang fine looking tractor HC!
Actually, that is a terrible looking tractor and the owner should ship it to me immediately to escape the humiliation of having others see it. I will be a generous guy and will pick up shipping costs. :p

""It was an unhandy spot"

Agreed, and the 8N location is not much better!"

Yes sir, totally agree. I think they could have learned a
lesson from Harry Ferguson on that one. Ferguson
They had their down sides too, but closer to where you need them.

I have to agree on the 8N (open the cover than open the lid... WTH?), but not on the 9N. I like where the box is on that.
