not sure what all you have or have omitted or replaced.. so here is a basic walkthru..
big charge stud on alt thru ammeter to hot side of battery.
#2 on alt looped to charge stud.
#1 on alt thru a 194 lamp or similar isolation to switched side of key switch ( same side coil is on )
wire feeding key comes off the same side of the ammeter as alternator. so do lamps. nothing on other side of ammeter except connection to battery.
this maintains your net charge / discharge center 0 ammeter.
adjust as needed for presence of ignition resistor and wireing points..
