Moving on from yesterdays conversation on the hole in my 8N block.
I have decided to search for another block to replace it. todays question is, My block is a side mount distributor, must I replace it with another side mount distributor? if I do must it be the same year, as I remember the 8n side mount was only made in 1951 and 1952, I am not sure if the blocks were the same in the newer model 1953 and beyond. thanks for any help and or advise that can be offered.

You can replace the complete engine with any 1939-
1952 Ford N series engine. You will like the side
mount engine better - slightly more HP and easier to
service the points. If you put a front mount engine
in it you will need the generator and distributor.
You can use your old gov and proof meter.

They started making the side mount blocks in early 1950. I would stay with the side mount engine myself! 53 and newer completely different.

Jim,
I am pretty new here but I will tell you what I think some of the long tiimers would say as well. You don't have to be in a hurry to find something that will work, and you can make lots of things work with modifications, but if you look for a clean block fro 50 -52 , probably with the rest of the tractor attached, you will find something at a fair price. Then buy it. It's sort of a "hurry up and wait" proposition.
And when you find it I will buy the carb from you for a rebuild.

Is there a name for this disease?

Rick
