I'm working on a very early 2N with I-beam radius rods and wedge
bolt spindles. The center section of the front axle is worn beyond
reasonable repair. I have a later model 2N parts tractor with a
good front axle, but it has oval radius rods and keyed spindles.
According to the CNH parts site it would appear that the center
section is the same part #, so I could just swap that. Right?
Question is, is that the right way to go?
Should I swap the whole axle and spindles to keep the keyed ones?
They are obviously a bit more robust than the wedge bolt type.
If I do that, do I need to change the steering tie rods in any way?
The parts section at CNH is definitely not clear on that front!
