The last dual carb flathead I worked on "Note" the guy they got it from said the engine had been overhauled but I think he left out it was 40 years a ago... :lol:
Check blowing coolant out radiator.

Engine flutter/surge/pop/backfire at cruise speeds

Test drive and confirm issue,

Run a compression test

Test Numbers, first hit/ fifth hit on gauge

1) 80/120

2) 50/125

3) 75/120

4) 75/110

5) 75/115

6) 65/100

7) 85/125

8) 75/120

Run a combustion gas leak test, test confirms a leaking head gasket. Air check all cylinders. 2,3,4,7 head gasket leaking. Re-torque head gaskets re-check combustion gas test,, negative no head gasket leakage. Replace both head gaskets, heating condition repaired. Engine still runs rough/flutter/backfire and rich. Unable to scope ignition system Replace non resistor plugs and copper core plug wires, scope ignition all ignition checks good engine still has a flutter/pop/ backfire at 2K RPM Run a engine running compression test.

1st number running compression 2nd # blip throttle

1) 50/115

2) 50/115

2) 50/100

4) 50/100

5) 50/100

6) 50/100

7) 50-115

8) 50/115
Inject propane and it clears up at 2000 rpm,,, remove carbs and rebuild. Rear carb left side stopped up accelerator pump circuit stopped up parts missing

Drill and heli coil stripped carb bolts, drill out stopped up accelerator pump circuit for rear carb, repair accelerator linkage both carbs.
