I am switching my 2N to 12v. system I have purchased a new 12v. coil
for the front mount distributor, do I need a ballast resistor as well. The guy at New Holland didn't know. I have already rewired up to this point and have installed the GMC alternator, switched the polarity on the ammeter wire and installed the exciter lamp on the dash. So now after I have installed points and condenser the last things is this coil before I fire it up. Grateful for any help.

" do I need a ballast resistor as well."

Yes.

Just like the one in the picture. And it should already be on your tractor.

Do not use any other resistors.

See tip # 30 at the link.

I can't see Bruce's picture, so I'm trying to post one like it.
Mounts on the back of the dash, left side of the steering column.
